Miniature brushes are brushes that can be used by a machine or with one hand. Their small size makes them perfect for delicate applications, but they have a wide range of uses that primarily involve cleaning, polishing, finishing, and deburring. They have virtually endless functions for almost every industry.
Hand-held brushes consist of bristles that have been attached to a handle. These bristles can be attached via stapling, gluing, or hand lacing, as well as inserting the bristles into wire that is twisted. Hand-held brushes come in many varieties including block brushes, applicator brushes, acid, artist, and pencil-shaped brushes.
Miniature Hand-held brushes come in a range of styles for a variety of applications. Gordon Brush® caries a wide variety of brush styles, including:
Scratch Brushes: These brushes are used for cleaning dirt, rust, scale, chips, and paint in a variety of applications including plating and welding operations.
Artist and Forensic Brushes: These brushes are thin for creating fine, precise details. They are used in a variety of artistic applications including painting, stenciling, and blending water colors, as well as by law enforcement agencies for detailed forensic work.
Toothbrush-Style Brushes: These brushes are narrow with concentrated bristles on one side of the handle, like a toothbrush. They are ideal for scrubbing tight spaces, and, depending on the bristle material, can be used for tougher cleaning jobs.
Welder’s Brushes: These have a similar design to toothbrush-style brushes and are used for cleaning the base material before welding and between each pass. These help to avoid contamination that could ruin your weld.
Applicator Brushes: These can be made from a variety of materials including horsehair, brass, nylon, and more. They are durable brushes with excellent chemical resistance and shaped like a pencil.
Flow-Thru Brushes: These are used to control the application of glues, paints, dyes, lubricants, solvents, and other liquids. They are also available in several filaments including nylon, camel hair, and red sable.
General applications for any specialty or custom brush are: applying, pushing, removing, cleaning, spreading, or acting as a barrier. They can be used for most applications that require smaller brushes and detailed work with the user’s hands and have virtually endless industrial opportunities.
Specific uses for miniature brushes include:
Gordon Brush® hand-held brushes are usually made with staple set or hand laced construction, and the handle is typically constructed from aluminum, plastic, or wood. We will work with you to make the custom hand-held brush you need.
The size of a hand-held brush or miniature brush reflects the measurement of the handle's length, width and height or diameter. The handle can be a small as 1/4" (6.4mm) in length, as small as 1/4" (6.4mm) in width, and the height must be at least 3/8" (9.5mm) for conventional stapling.
For an Anchor Set brush (like your ordinary toothbrush), the height may be as small as 1/8" (3.2mm) and as long as you want. For round handles, the smallest handle diameter is 1/8" (3.2mm). The style of the handle can be square, rectangle, triangular, round, or any combination thereof. The trim length on any of these brushes can range from as short as 1/16" (1.6mm) to as long as 6" (152.4mm). These measurements hold true for any bristle material.
The fill material used in the brush can come from natural, synthetic, or metal sources. The bristles can be made from a range of materials including stainless steel, brass, horsehair, hog bristle, and nylon. The brushes are flexible, designed to retain their shape better than wire-fill brushes, and will not degrade the diameter, straightness, or surface.
The use of the brush will determine the types of fill material and core material to be used. For example, natural bristle, static dissipative or conductive materials are used where static electricity is a problem. Synthetic brush materials are often used for general purpose cleaning, and some are chemical resistant. Metal materials are used for heavy duty cleaning, and cleaning other metal surfaces. To lengthen the life of the brush, use the softest fill material that is appropriate for the application.
